The Alternative Metal band from New York, Helmet, rocked The Lee’s Palace, in Toronto, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic album Betty.

Helmet put on an incredible show for a sold-out audience in Toronto. For me, this was a celebration, I started reviewing concerts exactly three years ago and I was excited to get to cover one of my favorite bands of all time. I have been a Helmet fan since around 1993 when a friend of mine recommended them. I felt honored to get to see them on this tour and even more ecstatic to be able to cover it.
Page Hamilton, lead guitarist and vocalist, is like a bottle of really good wine, he keeps getting better with age, and his band is no joke either. They played a hefty, more than two-hour long setlist that featured the album, Betty, in its entirety. Despite a little bit of a bumpy start with some technical issues with Hamilton’s in ear monitors, the band paused while they got everything fixed and went on to give an unforgettable performance.

Kyle Stevenson behind the drum kit was flawless. His sound was precise and powerful. Dan Beeman on rhythm guitar complemented Page’s riffs perfectly. Dave Case on bass gave it his all the entire show and looked like he was having the time of his life. The band offers a unique VIP experience for those hardcore fans that includes attending sound check, followed by a meet and greet experience with the band that allows them to get their personal Helmet memorabilia signed.

Helmet is joined by Slomosa and War on Women for every stop of their tour except the final two shows, in Philadelphia and Washington. Both opening acts had a strong following. I was impressed by War on Women. Their performance was high energy, and they clearly wanted to impress the audience as it was their first time playing in Toronto.
