Swiss band, Coroner, made their comeback at the Velvet Underground in Toronto. Coroner is celebrating forty years of technical thrash metal with their North American tour titled “Non-Omnis Moriar” with special guests Deceased and Korrosive.

It was a great evening for Metal at The Velvet Underground in Toronto, people gathered early outside of the venue to see the Legends of Thrash Metal Coroner and Deceased in action. Up first was local act, Korrosive. They brought their brand of thrash metal sound and had a solid following. It was my first time seeing them and I have to say that they are great live. They have a very loyal following and I completely understand why. A few songs that stood out were, “In the Name of Destruction,” “Hijo de Puta” and “Under a Vicious Sky.” I will definitely be paying more attention to Korrosive and can’t wait to see them again.

Next, after a short pause, the American death/thrash metal band from Virginia, Deceased took the stage. This was another first for me as I had not seen them live before. What a treat. They delivered a super fun performance. Deceased is also on the road celebrating forty years of making music. They put everything they have into their live show and the audience responded accordingly.
King Fowley (vocals) interacted with the audience the entire set while Mike Smith delivered killer riffs melding flawlessly with Shane Fuegel on guitars and Les Snyder on Bass. Amos Rifkin had a killer set as well behind the drums, definitely a treat for those that were looking for Thrash metal that night. Deceased played a variety of songs from their Fearless Undead Machines album (1997) and Luck of the Corpse (1991). The old school bangers were thrilled. Decreased is a band you should check out live.

Coroner was formed in Zurich in 1983 and after a pause in their music career, it was incredible to have a chance to finally see them live. The band gave their fans exactly what they wanted, an evening of pure thrash metal! The band is comprised of a trio, Ron Royce on bass and vocals, Tommy T. Baron on guitars and Diego Rappachietti on drums.
Coroner played a nice mix of their catalog including, “Internal Conflicts,” Sacrificial Lamb,” and “Masked Jackal.” I personally enjoyed “Semtex Revolution” and “Die By My Hand.” Both have become favorites of mine. Diego Rappachietti gave an absolutely jaw dropping performance behind the drums. It was indescribable. Ron Royce ripped it up on the bass, entertaining the crowd with his distinctive vocals and constant fan interaction and Tommy Baron’s guitar riffs were flawless. Royce repeatedly told the crowd how grateful the band was for their support.
“Grin (Nails Hurt)” to me there were a few songs that now have become favourite of mine like “Semtex Revolution”, and of course “Die by My Hand”. Diego Rappachietti gave an absolutely jaw dropping performance behind the drums with a non stopping drumming beats, while Tommy Baron amazing riffs and Ron super deep sounds with this Bass and very distinctive voice always interacting with the audience, always acknowledging how grateful he was of being there supporting the band.
At the end of their set, Coroner informed the stoked crowd that they will be releasing new music this October. This will be the band’s first studio album since 1993. It was clear that everyone was excited to see what’s next for Coroner.
