LIVE: Our Lady Peace Brings Their Wonderful Future Tour to The Vine Showroom at del Lago

Photos and Review : Chris Besaw

Canadian alternative rock legends, Our Lady Peace, stopped by The Vine at del Lago Casino and Resort. Our Lady Peace is currently on tour in support of their current album The Wonderful Future.

Opening the evening was Long Beach, New York experimental band, These People.  These People the solo project of TJ Penzone (Men, Women & Children) kicked things off with notable songs “Circles,” and “Levels” which got some of the crowd on their feet and dancing along.

After seeing some mixed reviews about Our Lady Peace’s previous stops on their current tour, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The stage went dark except for a light box that had a stunning high-definition display of an AI generated person who spoke to the audience about what they could expect to experience during the show. A bold and ingenious way to get the crowds attention! Once the AI was finished, the band appeared on stage and immediately began playing “One Man Army.” Raine Maida and bandmates continued with heavy hitting  songs “Superman’s Dead,” “Is Anybody Home?” and the tour exclusive downloadable track, “Neurosis.”

I really enjoyed the use of the hologram boxes that were used between songs. They played recorded messages from world renowned futurist and author, Ray Kurzweil. It was a captivating way of pushing the technology envelope and engaging the audience on a whole new level. Other pre-recorded guests who made appearances during the evening included Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot who provided backup vocals on “Stop Making Stupid People Famous.” The fans loved it!

Each time I see Our Lady Peace they put on an amazing show and find new and exciting ways to engage the audience. Raine Maida, Duncan Coutts, Steve Mazur and Jason Pierce are truly music masters of their craft. I am glad I had an opportunity to see them on their Wonderful Future Tour. Based on the album title, I am hopeful that Our Lady Peace will have more wonderful new music and intriguing live presentations to entertain fans for years to come.

If you missed them at del Lago, you still have a couple more chances before this leg of the tour ends. It is definitely worth checking out live. Thank you and please check out my photo highlights from the evening.
