Bush, the multi-platinum, English rock band treated fans to a sold out show at the Vine Showroom at the Del Lago Casino and Resort in Waterloo, New York. The band is on tour to support their ninth studio album The Art of Survival. Bush brought along with them Outlaw Pop artist, DEVORA who is on tour in support of her new EP “God is Dead.”

Kicking off the night was DEVORA, the outlaw pop artist from the deserts of Arizona. I have to start by saying that it is always refreshing to be introduced to new music, especially new music that is unique and sounds great on the albums and live. DEVORA is part of my regular Spotify listening rotation now.

DEVORA started off with “Not Dead Yet.” The catchy hook, “I’m living in a ghost town, ghost town, I’m doing things my way, my way, I’m riding into a pitch-black sunset, I’m not dead yet, I’m not dead yet” got the crowd amped up and set the tone for what DEVORA is all about… doing things your way. Other highlights included, “Wild West,” “Fist Fight” and “God is Dead.” The message in the music was clear, take the road less traveled, be yourself and it’s ok to be an outlaw. Syracuse Music Collective had an opportunity to sit with DEVORA prior to the show. Check out the interview here. If you haven’t heard of DEVORA, I suggest you check it out and try to catch them live if you have a chance.

Up next was Bush. Lead singer Gavin Rossdale along with lead guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Britz and drummer Nik Hughes took the stage and immediately kicked things off with the haunting tune “Identity” off their latest release The Art of Survival.  I thought this song sounded amazing live. It brought a level of intensity to it that the studio recording lacked. The crowd consisting mostly of females hoping to get a good glimpse or a fist bump from Gavin Rossdale seemed mostly pumped to hear the songs from the band’s most popular album Sixteen Stone. While songs like “Machinehead,” “Everything Zen,” “Little Things,” “Glycerine” and “Comedown” are great live, I thought that some of the more interesting highlights of the evening were “Blood River,” “The Sound of Winter,” “More Than Machines” and “Kingdom.” I felt that they showcased the evolution of the sound of the band.

During the song “Bullet Holes,” Gavin bravely left the stage and ran through the crowd, jumping one of the walls so that he could run through the first tier of seating, past the bar area around and back down to the stage again much to the delight of fans. After returning to the stage, Gavin looked up at the upper balcony tiers of the venue and commented, “I have to get up there.” Although that did not happen, his efforts were not in vain, he did a great job of connecting with the fans.

Overall, it was a great night of music. I enjoyed meeting DEVORA and learning more about her music. I look forward to seeing what her future holds. Bush proved that they still sound amazing, and they are still putting out some great music thirty years later. There are still plenty of opportunities to catch them on this tour, so don’t miss out.
