Show Review : Masked Intruder at Funk N’ Waffles Syracuse

Masked Intruder made a stop at Funk N’ Waffles in Syracuse, NY on Tuesday April 18.

The Wisconsin based punk band is made up of Intruder Blue (vocals, guitar), Intruder Yellow (bass, vocals), Intruder Green (guitar, vocals), Luke Ferguson filling in for Intruder Red on Drums, and Officer Bradford. The band who is currently on tour with Fat Wreck Chords label mates Me First and The Gimme Gimmes made an off-tour date stop in Syracuse.

Opening the show was Syracuse based punk band The Surrogates who got things started off right with their blend of pop punk, sarcasm and sharp wit! I have seen them several times now, and they always put on one hell of a show. They engage the audience and get them moving! I strongly suggest checking out one of their live shows.

Next up was Lucky 33. If you like straight up no frills, gritty DIY punk rock these guys are definitely the real deal. They delivered a high-energy performance. In fact, I can’t recall a moment where any of them stopped moving. They were constant energy: jumping and throwing buttons and candy into the crowd. Some of my favorite tunes form their set included “Caffeine” and “Paycheck.” They put 110% into their shows.

It didn’t take long before the night’s main offenders took the stage. Masked Intruder along with their parole officer Bradford sprung out onto the stage and launched right into their set with favorites like “25 to Life” and “I Fought the Law.” Masked Intruder has a knack for making their shows fun. They roam out into the audience, dance and mosh with the fans and invite fans to sing along. They even invited one super fan to join them onstage to sing “Heart Shaped Guitar” with them. After an incredible, fast-paced set, the band left the stage leaving Syracuse fans chanting for more.

Syracuse Music Collective was fortunate enough to sit down with the band and Officer Bradford to discuss everything from homemade jailhouse toilet wine to what was the first thing they “stole.” Remember, per them, they’re innocent.
