Photo Gallery: Trapt and GEARS at The Finger Lakes Mall Event Center

GEARS made their first appearance in Upstate New York this past Saturday at the Fingerlakes Mall Event Center. GEARS is a combination of some of today’s most talented metal performers including vocalist Trip Six (Urban Rebel), Jimmy Wooten (Skinmask) on the drums, bassist Chris Dorame (Solution), and Ethan Vega  (10 Fold) and newcomer Bobby Thomas rocking the guitars. GEARS is currently on tour with Trapt in support of their newest release Pride Comes Before The Fall. The album was produced by bassist extraordinaire, Corey Lowery (Stuck Mojo, Stereomud, Saint Asonia).

The band delivered an incredible 30 minute set, winning over quite a few new fans! Some highlights included the heavy hitting “Rise With Me” and the melodic and groove inspired tune “Face Down.” Drummer, Jimmy Wooten, described “Face Down” as a “song about how people tend to portray themselves in a certain way in social media, when often they’re quite the opposite. It’s about that moment when someone breaks down, takes to social media for a rant, but when the smoke clears and cooler heads prevail, try to erase the evidence and return to that fake portrayal.”

If you weren’t able to catch the band’s performance at the Fingerlakes Mall, you will get another chance to check them out on August 10 at the Vault in Syracuse, located at 451 S Warren Street. They will be supporting the Miami based experimental hardcore group, I Set My Friends on Fire.

Prior to the Auburn show I had the opportunity to talk with Jimmy Wooten and Trip 6. Although they may look intimidating both were really laid back and easy to talk with. We discussed their musical influences, how they came together to form GEARS and some crazy moments on tour.

Hope you enjoy the photo gallery and interview!
