It’s a Nice Day to… Rock Again: Billy Idol Brings the Fire to Syracuse

Billy Idol delivered a high-octane performance at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse on August 15, 2026, as part of his “It’s a Nice Day To… Tour Again!” run. Backed by longtime guitar maestro Steve Stevens and a tight, powerful band, the punk icon proved once again that his signature snarl, sneering charisma, and arena-rock swagger remain entirely timeless.

Special guests DEVO opened the evening with their signature quirky new-wave energy, warming up the crowd under the amphitheater’s lakeside lights. By the time Idol took the stage around 9:00 p.m., the energy was already high and ready to explode.

Moody blues and violent crimson washes framed Idol against the dark backdrop, creating stark high-contrast silhouettes that were a gift to pit photographers. His dynamic posture, constant movement, and trademark facial sneers offered endless stop-action photo opportunities throughout the night.

The set kicked off with “Still Dancing” (from his 2025 album Dream Into It) before diving straight into the classic one-two punch of “Cradle of Love” and “Flesh for Fantasy,” immediately locking in a nostalgic yet still-fresh pace. Newer material like “77” and “Love Unchained” sat comfortably alongside the hits, while “Eyes Without a Face” brought a haunting, atmospheric glow to the amphitheater. Steve Stevens then stepped into the spotlight for a towering guitar medley that showcased his virtuosity and drew roaring applause.

The middle of the set kept the momentum high with a raucous “Mony Mony,” the deep-cut “Trouble With the Sweet Stuff,” a sharp Generation X throwback in “Ready Steady Go,” and the dramatic “Blue Highway / Top Gun Anthem” medley. The main set closed with a roof-raising “Rebel Yell” that had the entire amphitheater on its feet.

For the encore, Idol returned with three of his most enduring anthems: “Dancing With Myself,” “Hot in the City,” and a triumphant, sing-along finale of “White Wedding.” The 90-minute performance was pure spectacle—tight, energetic, and delivered with the swagger of an artist who still clearly loves being on stage.
