The Norwegian occult black metal trio Witch Club Satan delivered an astonishing performance at Lee’s Palace during Toronto’s Prepare the Ground Festival on May 29, 2026. Marking their official North American debut, the show felt less like a traditional concert and more like a full theatrical ritual — perfectly embodying their tour slogan, “Founding of the Witch Club.”

From the moment they took the stage, the band’s presence was commanding. Draped in tattered ceremonial robes, Nikoline Spjelkavik, Johanna Holt Kleive, and Victoria Fredrikke Hamre seamlessly blended high-concept performance art with raw, old-school black metal ferocity. The packed venue quickly filled with the thick scent of incense as the band moved through the crowd, immediately immersing the audience in their dark atmosphere.

Musically, Witch Club Satan delivered a primitive, blistering wall of sound that stayed true to Norwegian black metal roots while adding a bold feminist and avant-garde edge. Piercing shrieks alternated with haunting spoken-word passages, shifting between chaotic aggression and eerie, atmospheric dread. The precision of the percussion and the crushing weight of the overdriven guitar riffs shook the historic floorboards of Lee’s Palace.

The set drew heavily from their self-titled debut album, opening with the intense “Hysteria,” followed by standouts like “Fresh Blood, Fresh Pussy” and “Mother Sea.” The audience was already fully captivated when the band reached “Black Metal is Krig.” At that moment, they underwent a full costume change into something far more macabre and unsettling. The transformation — paired with deep hissing vocals and witch-like screams — created the most terrifying and memorable moment of the night.

Witch Club Satan didn’t just perform — they conducted a ritual. They used the entire stage with dramatic, ritualistic movements, frequently breaking the fourth wall and erasing the usual distance between band and audience. The Toronto crowd watched in a mix of awe, fascination, and slight unease.

By the time the final feedback faded, one thing was clear: Witch Club Satan had successfully planted their coven on North American soil.

If you get the chance to see them live — don’t miss it. We already can’t wait for their return.
