Kerry King with Municipal Waste and Special Guest Alien Weaponry at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, Canada. 02/01/25

What a way to start my 2025 concert season with a performance that left the Torontonians wowed by iconic guitar legend Kerry King (former Slayer) touring with him Alien Weaponry, and Municipal Waste for their North American Tour.

The event started with Alien Weaponry, a New Zealand metal band from Waipu, formed in Auckland the band consists of drummer Henry de Jong, guitarist Lewis de Jong, and bass player Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds who joined the band in August 2020.

It was a very first time for me seeing them live and I was impressed by their stage presence, incredible vocals, and Thrash Metal sound that reminded me of Sepultura from ’90s. Alien Weaponry started their set by performing their iconic Hakka by Drummer Henry de Jong, joined by Bass guitarist Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds on the stage, then by Lewis de Jong right after that the band started performing their set with songs from their album Tū, and one brand new song from their upcoming album Te Rā. Although it was a very short set they kept all of us captivated by their intensity and strong roots with Māori tradition singing in their native language as well.

The band traveled from far to deliver a quite amazing performance and if you are looking for something new in Metal Alien Weaponry is there for you. So go and support this amazing band.

After a short break it was Municipal Waste to go on stage Ryan Waste, Tony Foresta and their gang of misfits brought their Thrash and hardcore punk fusion again to Toronto to its full force as you can expect. They started with a pretty intensive performance, playing a variety of their classics and old from their quite extensive repertoire starting with “Garbage Stomp”, “Sadistic Magician”, “Slime and Punishment”, “Breathe Grease” always fun watching these guys having a blast on the stage with such a solid started songs.

I was quite surprised that it was not a sold out show but it was quite crowded and you can tell they were committed to their favourite bands Municipal Waste and Slayer wearing the hats, battle vests, shirts, you name it! Meanwhile Dave Witte behind his drum kit, Land Phil with his Bass and Nick “Nikropolis” Poulos on guitars continued their riot on stage and the audience responded like such! I just wish they come more often to Canada if was not for their constant issues on the border regardless it is always a blast having them live in town.

Now it was time for the main act Karry Fucking King and his band. Many may say that Kerry’s band is a Slayer 2.0 version but in my opinion, what would you expect from a Metal legend to be? He is Slayer and he now brings a totally different concept continuing working his ass off to deliver more Metal to masses.

Kerry King is joined by an old friend of many battles, former Slayer Drummer Plaul Bustaph, Phil Demmel playing guitars, Kyle Sanders (Troy Sanders brother from Mastodon) in bass and the iconic vocalist Mark Osegueda from Death Angel with  his stage presence really had the audience entertained and engaged all the time interacting with the crowd the entire night.

The band played songs from their latest album “From Hell I Rise” as well as some Slayer and Iron Maiden covers such as “Killers” and “Purgatory” two great songs in memory of the late Paul D’Anno (What a great way to remember his legacy). Continuing with some Slayer bangers, such as Raining in Blood, Disciple even played one of my favourite songs “At Dawn They Sleep” , such a great tune! Ending their set with Black Magic (Slayer song) and “From Hell I Rise”.

Kerry King now is a walking legend no matter what and he will continue delivering those iconic riffs and song style as he can only deliver and I can’t wait to see more in the near future. The band will continue touring North America until the end of February, then South America and Europe so don’t miss out.
