Baroness landed in Toronto with two outstanding performances during their North American Tour Sweet Oblivion, in support of their new album Stone, released last September.

Early Sunday afternoon, Baroness made a stop at the iconic Sonic Boom Records in downtown Toronto for a special acoustic performance that only happened in a few select cities on their current tour. During their in-store performance, John and Gina treated their hardcore fans performing songs such as “The Dirge,” “Last Word,” and “Tourniquet” which has not been played live for quite some time. The audience was excited and started singing along during the last song.
Right after their performance Sebastian Thomson and Nick Jost joined John and Gina for a brief meet and greet and an autograph session and allowed each of the attendees to bring their favorite items to get signed or snag the latest album to purchase in-store, at the same time leaving all of us very hyped to see their main performance later in the evening at The Danforth Music Hall.
Later in the evening, it was time for the main event. Unfortunately, Vile Creatures, one of the opening bands, was not able to perform that night so Spotlights, a trio from Brooklyn, New York, took the stage and were in charge of starting things off. They brought their blend of heavy music and distortion to the Torontonians. Spotlights is led by Mario Quintero – Guitar/Synths/Vocals, Sarah Quintero – Bass/Guitar/Vocals, and Chris Enriquez – Drums. They delivered a performance that kept the audience banging their heads during their entire set, and even though it was probably a first time for most of the concertgoers seeing this band live, the crowd seemed impressed with their performance.
Spotlights Setlist:
- Seismic
- The Alchemist
- Algorithmic
- False Gods
- What Is This? Where Are We?
- Sunset Burial
- Part IV
Right after the terrific performance from Spotlights, and a short break to get the stage ready, it was time for Baroness. The band slowly started to emerge from backstage. Starting with Sebastian Thomson behind the Drums, led by John Baizley (guitars and vocals), Gina Gleason (Lead guitars and backing vocals), and Nick Jost (Bass and Keyboards). Their first few songs were from their latest album Stone, such as “Last Word,” “Beneath the Rose” and “Under The Wheel” their set also included songs from their previous releases like “A Horse Called Golgotha,” “March to the Sea,” and “Cocainium.”
This talented Metal band from Savannah, Georgia, really put on an outstanding performance letting out all their energy for each song and showing off their passion for music for their loyal fans. John’s vocals were out of this world. At times you could even hear his voice throughout the venue without a mic while he played shredding riffs constantly during their set. You can feel the passion that John puts into their live performance. At the same time Gina Gleason is behind her guitar exploding with energetic action, running and jumping around the stage and interacting with the audience constantly. On the other side

of the stage is Nick Jost, always with his gentle smile, playing Bass and keyboards flawlessly. And let’s not forget about Sebastian Thomson on the drums. He is a beast delivering such powerful and clean sound without a hitch. He is an incredible drummer.
During the entire set Baroness had people moshing and going nuts, particularly with “Morningstar,” “Shock Me,” and The Sweetest Curse (one of my favorite songs). Baroness only has a few Canadian tour dates left and will continue their US tour through the beginning of December, so don’t miss out on seeing this amazing band live.
