Gaerea supporting The Lawless Martyrs Tour at The Lee’s Palace. Toronto, On Canada 10/04/23. Exclusive Concert Review

Photos and Review by David Del La Huerta

Gaerea delivered a night to remember to their hardcore at The Lee’s Place in Toronto during their visit to Canada on their North American Tour “The Lawless Martyrs 2023.”

What an amazing performance by the Black Metal quintet from Portugal. They delivered a performance full of theatrics and high-energy songs. Gaerea is an all-masked Black Metal band who has been extremely busy the past few years releasing new albums including Limbo (2020) and Mirage (2022). Mirage turned out to be a breakthrough album that has opened many doors for the band. They have had a heavy touring schedule since its release. I had the pleasure of getting the opportunity to photograph and review this show. I enjoyed their performance as I am a fan. It was a wonderful experience for me, and I even ran into a few friends at the show.

Lee’s Palace went dark as a figure appeared behind the drum kit. All of a sudden, the lead singer raced to center stage and they started right into “Mantle” a super hard and heavy song laden with fast paced riffs. The audience immediately started headbanging and pumping their closed fists in the air. The band played a variety of songs off their last two albums throughout the set. Even though their set was short, the band made it worth the trip to see them live.

Gaera is currently visiting North American cities in the US and Canada in support of other bands such as Blackbraid and Wolves in the Throne Room. Don’t miss their performance during their North American Tour because they have hinted that they are working on a new album and might not come back to America until late 2024 or 2025 due to a heavy tour schedule in Europe.

Gaerea Setlist:

  • Mantle
  • Salve
  • Deluge
  • Urge
  • Mirage
  • Laude
