Stone Temple Pilots hit the stage the other night in Buffalo for the first time since the late Scott Weiland’s passing. Not only has the band had to deal with Scott’s passing, but also the loss of short-term singer Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. With all that has happened in the last few years, it might be safe to say that Stone Temple Pilots just might have a new lease on life.
New front man Jeff Gutt’s vocal range is comparable to Weiland’s. His stage presence, movements and even his look give the appearance that he is channeling Scott in some way. The band opened with two fan favorites “Wicked Garden” and “Vasoline” followed by new song “Middle of Nowhere” off their newly self-titled album.
The strong stage presence that Jeff brought to the stage was also exuberated by founding members of STP Dean and Robert Deleo, as well as drummer Eric Kretz. The energy throughout the night was intensified by the Sold-Out crowd who ate up the nostalgia of seeing this 90’s band once again. Fans got really pumped for classics like “Big Empty,” “Plush,” “Interstate Love Song” and the final song of the evening “Sex Type Thing.” The band also shined with new songs that they mixed in throughout the evening like “Meadow” and “Finest Hour.”
If there is one thing to take away from this show, it’s that Stone Temple Pilots may have endured some heartbreaking years, but they are far from being…. “Dead and Bloated.”
