DECIBEL MAGAZINE TOUR w/ MAYHEM, MORTIIS & NEW SKELETAL FACES made a stop in Toronto as part of their 2025 tour. Decibel magazine has been bringing some of the best metal and black metal bands in the business to North America since 2012.

New Skeletal Faces kicked off the evening with a solid set showing off their unique death rock and goth sounds. The trio from California kept the crowd engaged and headbanging the entire time. It was my first time seeing New Skeletal Faces live and I am looking forward to seeing them again.

After a short break, Imperial Triumph, from the city that never sleeps, New York, took the stage. Imperial Triumphant has a distinctive black metal and jazz infusion sound that is unlike other metal bands. They started their set featuring their brand-new album Goldstar playing songs, “Lexington Delirium,” followed by “Gomorrah Nouveaux” and “Hotel Sphinx.”

 

The trio is comprised of Zachary Ezrin (vocals/guitar), Steve Blanco (bass), and Kenny Grohowski (drums). Since its inception, they have been working hard to deliver their brand of metal to the masses. This time around, they upped their game by donning new masks, new stage scenery and they brought a whole new level of musical excellence.

I was also lucky to catch up with the band during their meet and greet. I would highly recommend it for hardcore fans or anyone who would like an up close and personal experience with the band. You can purchase the experience directly from their Bandcamp website.

It was time for the third act of the night, Mortis! Mortis is an electronic band from Notodden, Norway. Mortis is celebrating thirty years of making Black Metal music. Mortis is fronted by Havard Ellefsen with Jon Siren on the drums. For almost an hour, Mortis took the crowd on a journey through modern age and dark ages synth metal music. They play on the period of decline in human culture and of the black death. By combining eerie sounds with spooky images projected on the screens, the band creates an audio and visual experience that is unforgettable.

It was time for the main act, the moment that we all were waiting for, the mighty Mayhem. Mayhem is fronted by vocalist Attila Csihar, with Necrobutcher on the bass, Hellhammer behind the drums and guitarists Ghul and Teloch. The band is celebrating forty-plus years of Black Metal. For many Metalheads, if you just mention the name Mayhem, they know the band’s history and are familiar with their music.

Their stage setup was quite simple unlike previous tours where the stage was full of dark props and other macabre paraphernalia. Mayhem has a huge backdrop with early photos of the band, scenes from interviews and some of their more obscure moments. The band played a robust, almost two-hour setlist, with songs that spanned their entire career. The set included iconic songs  “Malum,” “Bad Blood,” “Chimera” and “My Death.” They also played quite a few songs from the 1984-1990 era ending their set with “Chainsaw Gutsfuck,” “Carnage” and “Pure Fucking Armageddon.” The Decibel Magazine Tour will continue throughout the US and Canada until April so don’t miss it.
